In a celebration of cultural ties, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library recently hosted the UAE-China Calligraphy Forum in Dubai. The event commemorated 40 years of diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and China, emphasizing the rich artistic traditions shared by both countries.

Organized in collaboration with the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation and the Chinese Embassy in the UAE, the forum brought together artists, scholars, and diplomats. The gathering featured exhibitions, workshops, and seminars focusing on Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation, providing a platform for mutual learning and creative collaboration.

Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, highlighted the significance of the event, stating that the forum reflects the UAE’s commitment to deepening cultural and intellectual ties with China. He emphasized the shared artistic traditions of Arab and Chinese civilizations, particularly in calligraphy, which is regarded in both cultures as a refined and symbolic art form.

Khalid Al Jallaf, Chairman of the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy, noted that the forum aligns with the UAE’s cultural strategy of building international partnerships. He remarked, “This year’s edition underscores the role of art in fostering dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding.”

Chinese Consul General in Dubai, Ou Bo Qian, praised calligraphy as a cultural bridge, describing it as a blend of aesthetics and philosophy that mirrors the symbolic nature of Arabic script. She stated, “Just as Arabic calligraphy reflects faith and wisdom, Chinese calligraphy captures the rhythm of time and history.”

The forum stands as a testament to the UAE’s vision of cultural diplomacy—using art and heritage to build lasting global connections. As both nations continue to host cultural festivals and literary events, such initiatives reinforce the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening international relations.
