As students across the UAE return to classrooms for the 2025–2026 school year, the Emirates Health Services (EHS) has announced the launch of an integrated national plan designed to elevate student health, ensure safe learning environments, and strengthen the synergy between healthcare and education.
According to Dr. Essam Al Zarouni, Acting Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at EHS, this initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to creating a health-first educational ecosystem. “We aim to make our schools not just centers of learning, but safe and healthy spaces that promote academic excellence and personal well-being,” he said.
Nationwide Coverage with 333 School Clinics
The health authority now oversees 333 dedicated school clinics across 312 public schools nationwide. These facilities are staffed with qualified medical and nursing personnel and equipped with all essential resources to provide continuous healthcare services throughout the academic year.
To support students and families, EHS has also released the Back-to-School Health Guide, offering essential tips and health protocols to ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year.
Expanded Screenings for Early Disease Detection
This academic year, the EHS has enhanced its student health screening program by incorporating new medical tests tailored to different age groups. These screenings aim to identify potential health issues early, ensuring timely intervention and care.
In parallel, healthcare staff across schools are undergoing specialized training to bolster their preparedness and rapid response capabilities in case of medical emergencies.
Focus on Vaccination and Preventive Education
Last year alone, over 95,000 students received vaccinations under the national immunization program administered through school clinics. Building on that success, EHS will continue its outreach this year, urging parents to ensure their children’s immunizations are up to date.
The organization is also intensifying its awareness campaigns to promote balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, and preventive habits that boost immunity and long-term health.
Family Involvement Key to Success
Dr. Shamsa Lootah, Director of Public Health Services at EHS, emphasized the critical role families play in supporting school health efforts. “Creating a healthy school environment requires active collaboration between parents, educators, and healthcare providers. Our messaging this year centers on the importance of daily routines that include nutritious meals, adequate sleep, hygiene awareness, and healthy behaviors,” she stated.
A Strategic Step Toward National Development
This health initiative is more than a back-to-school program—it represents a strategic vision to foster an empowered, healthy generation capable of leading the UAE’s journey in innovation and sustainable development. By bridging health and education, the Emirates Health Services is laying a solid foundation for lifelong wellness and academic achievement.
