In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the nation continues to strengthen its global reputation as a beacon of humanitarian aid and generosity. With its enduring commitment to alleviating suffering worldwide, the UAE has delivered lifesaving support to millions in need across six continents — offering food, water, shelter, and medical aid where it’s needed most.

As of mid-last year, the number of individuals who have benefited from the UAE’s foreign aid surpassed one billion, with the total value of humanitarian and development assistance exceeding AED 368 billion.

In a statement marking World Humanitarian Day, Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized that humanitarianism is deeply embedded in the country’s values. “Humanitarian work is central to our identity,” he stated. “Through our initiatives, we strive to build bridges — both within the UN and globally — bringing together governments, international agencies, and local communities. We stand united in support of those who dedicate their lives to serving humanity.”

Ambassador Abushahab paid tribute to humanitarian workers around the world, praising their bravery on the front lines and honoring those who have lost their lives delivering aid in the most dangerous circumstances. He also noted the UAE’s innovative approach to humanitarian response, highlighting the country’s advanced methods for delivering rapid, transparent aid to hard-hit regions.

The UAE has notably led relief operations in Gaza, where its contributions account for 44% of the total international humanitarian assistance to the territory since the onset of conflict. The nation’s efforts include land, air, and sea operations aimed at ensuring the continuous flow of critical supplies.

Beyond Gaza, the UAE has remained at the forefront of global humanitarian responses. Over the past decade, it has provided $3.5 billion in aid to Sudan, addressing urgent needs and supporting long-term recovery. In Ukraine, the UAE’s humanitarian response has reached over 1.2 million people, including more than a million women and children, as of February this year.

Furthermore, in direct response to the President’s directives, UAE emergency teams are actively involved in firefighting missions in Albania and Montenegro. These missions include dozens of aerial sorties using state-of-the-art equipment to combat widespread wildfires, reflecting the country’s swift response capabilities and commitment to international solidarity.

Through these sustained efforts, the UAE continues to honor its legacy of giving — standing firmly beside those in crisis, and reaffirming its role as a global leader in humanitarian action.
