A recent study conducted by EY (Ernst & Young) in collaboration with Dubai Police has revealed compelling figures showing the scale of the economic and social contributions made possible by Dubai’s secure environment—an achievement directly tied to the relentless efforts of Dubai Police to ensure safety for both residents and visitors.
This study confirms what many already believe: Dubai is an exceptional city, and security is one of the most important pillars of its success.
The Rise of Dubai Police: From Naif Station to a Global Role Model
Dubai Police was established in 1956, beginning its journey from the historic Naif Police Station, before moving to its current headquarters in 1973.
Since then, it has undergone a massive transformation to become one of the world’s most advanced and respected police forces.
This development was not by coincidence, but rather the result of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him – رعاه الله), whose unwavering support has empowered Dubai Police at every level.
The force has heavily invested in enhancing its capabilities—through continuous training, the use of cutting-edge technologies, and building strong ties with the community based on mutual trust.
Security in Dubai: A Key Driver of Economic Growth
The EY study concludes that security in Dubai is not only a social necessity but also a powerful economic driver, reinforcing the emirate’s status as an attractive destination for living, working, and investing.
The study used a comprehensive economic model based on data from 50 countries between 1995 and 2021, and the findings are both significant and clear.
Security’s Contribution to Dubai’s GDP
According to the study, declining crime rates in Dubai contributed between AED 63.9 billion and AED 102.3 billion to the local economy in 2024—an amount equal to 14% to 23% of the emirate’s GDP.
As the cornerstone of the security and justice system, Dubai Police’s direct contribution to the GDP is estimated between AED 31.8 billion and AED 50.9 billion annually, representing around 7% to 11% of the total GDP.
These figures highlight the vital role of Dubai Police in supporting the emirate’s economic growth and development.
Strengthening Tourism and Foreign Investment
The positive impact of security extends beyond the economy in general to crucial sectors such as tourism and foreign direct investment (FDI):
-
Tourism: The safe environment has attracted an additional 7 to 12 million tourists annually, with Dubai Police contributing to the arrival of 4 to 6 million of them—which equates to 19% to 33% of total tourist numbers.
-
FDI: Safety has also helped bring in an estimated AED 3.6 billion to AED 5.8 billion in additional foreign direct investment in 2024. Of that, Dubai Police’s role is estimated to account for AED 1.8 billion to AED 2.9 billion, or 1% to 2% of total FDI.
This data underscores how foreign investors see Dubai as a secure and stable environment, encouraging them to invest with confidence.
Dubai Police’s Role in Community Safety
The responsibilities of Dubai Police go far beyond crime fighting. The force plays a major role in strengthening community safety through awareness programs and initiatives aimed at building lasting trust between police officers and the public.
Dubai Police takes a proactive approach to security, using data analysis and risk forecasting to anticipate and prevent potential threats before they arise.
Leveraging Advanced Technology
Dubai Police gives special attention to using advanced technologies in its security operations. From artificial intelligence and big data analysis to drone technology, these tools help the force operate more efficiently—identifying suspects, improving services, and increasing reach across the city.
This modern approach makes it possible to cover wide areas quickly and effectively, ensuring a high standard of public safety.
Community Partnership at the Core
Dubai Police strongly believes in the importance of community partnership in achieving and maintaining security.
The force maintains constant communication with citizens and residents, listens to their opinions and suggestions, and encourages active participation in crime prevention.
Educational and awareness campaigns are regularly held in schools, universities, and shopping centers, helping spread a culture of safety and shared responsibility.
Looking Ahead: A Future of Even Greater Security
Dubai Police aims to continue its mission to enhance safety across the emirate through ongoing investment in training, innovation, and public collaboration.
The ultimate goal is clear: to make Dubai one of the safest cities in the world, offering exceptional security services to citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
