Dubai Opera

Nestled in the vibrant Downtown Dubai district, Dubai Opera is one of the United Arab Emirates’ most iconic cultural landmarks. Since its official opening on August 31, 2016, the venue has established itself as a regional hub for performing arts, hosting globally acclaimed shows and artists in a spectacular architectural setting.

Developed by Emaar Properties, Dubai Opera was envisioned as a multi-purpose cultural destination. Designed by the architectural firm Atkins, the building’s structure is inspired by the traditional Emirati dhow (sailing vessel), symbolizing a connection between Dubai’s modern identity and its rich maritime heritage.

Architectural Brilliance & Versatile Design

Dubai Opera features a state-of-the-art design that allows the main auditorium to transform into three different configurations: a traditional theater, a concert hall, and a flat-floor event space. With a seating capacity of around 2,000, the venue is equipped with cutting-edge hydraulic lifts and seat-moving systems, enabling quick reconfigurations to accommodate various types of performances and events.

A Complete Cultural Destination

More than just a theater, Dubai Opera includes modern cultural and entertainment facilities such as two libraries (cultural and musical), a music school, indoor and outdoor theaters, ballet and rehearsal studios, reception halls, and exhibition spaces. Visitors can also enjoy a rooftop restaurant with views of Burj Khalifa, a luxury hotel, yacht marina, and other leisure amenities.

World-Class Performances and Global Recognition

Since its opening, Dubai Opera has hosted major global productions such as Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera, as well as BBC Proms, one of the world’s most renowned classical music festivals. Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi was the first local artist to perform at the venue in October 2016.

The venue has won several prestigious awards, including “Best Theatrical Performance” at the Time Out Dubai Awards for Les Misérables, and “Favorite Show” at the What’s On Dubai Awards. It also received accolades for its production of Othello in 2019. Former CEO Jasper Hope, who previously held an executive role at London’s Royal Albert Hall, was honored for his outstanding contributions to the venue’s success.

As of 2023, the Italian cultural expert Paolo Petrocelli serves as the CEO of Dubai Opera, leading its continued development as a premier arts venue.

The Opera District: A Cultural Hub

Dubai Opera is the centerpiece of The Opera District, a cultural and lifestyle development by Emaar, located in close proximity to Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain. The district features art galleries, museums, design studios, luxury hotels, residential towers, and public art spaces — making it a vibrant urban destination for culture and creativity.
