Umm Suqeim Beach

Dubai has unveiled an ambitious AED 500 million plan to completely transform Umm Suqeim Beach—home to the beloved Kite Beach—into a dynamic, world-class waterfront destination. The redeveloped beach is expected to draw more than six million visitors annually.

The masterplan was approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The 3.1-kilometer beachfront project is set to break ground in the first quarter of 2026. It aims to expand public areas and reshape the beach environment with a design that reflects the Emirati cultural identity.

Spanning an area of 445,000 square meters, the upgraded beach will be a go-to spot throughout the day, offering a mix of recreational, sports, and cultural experiences. A key feature of the project is a 30% increase in beach and public space, alongside smart lighting that will cover 130,000 square meters—enabling safe and enjoyable evening activities, including nighttime swimming.

A Blend of Tradition and Modern Convenience

The new design will include six main entrance gates inspired by traditional Emirati architecture, along with ten transport hubs and eleven designated drop-off zones for taxis and ride services. There will also be dedicated lanes and parking for bicycles and electric scooters, making it easier for visitors to move around in a more eco-friendly way.

One standout feature will be a 38-meter-tall observation tower inspired by Dubai’s seafaring heritage—set to become a new coastal landmark. Parking will be expanded by 200%, bringing the total to about 2,400 spaces. Road access from Jumeirah Street will also be improved to ease traffic and reduce congestion in nearby residential areas.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Project

Environmental sustainability is a central focus of this redevelopment. To tackle rising sea levels, the plan includes a two-kilometer-long coastal retaining wall and raised beach levels, backed by innovative coastal engineering solutions to ensure both protection and long-term usability.

Marwan Ahmad bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said:
“The goal is to build a safe, inclusive beach destination that combines leisure, sports, and culture—welcoming everyone in the community.”

Part of a Bigger Vision for Dubai’s Future

This project fits into the larger Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to improve quality of life across the city through sustainable development and enhanced tourism offerings. It joins a list of major initiatives like the eco-focused upgrade of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, the opening of the UAE’s first recreational vehicle (RV) route, and new networks of parks and serviced hubs across Dubai.
