On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized that the mission of advancing infrastructure in the emirate is far from complete.
Taking to his official platform on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Sheikh Mohammed reflected on the transformational role RTA has played in Dubai’s development since its inception two decades ago. “Twenty years ago, we founded the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai. Over those years, we have invested more than AED 175 billion in road infrastructure,” he stated.
He further added, “We also invested in building a skilled workforce, and in developing invaluable expertise in designing and managing large-scale infrastructure projects.”
Sheikh Mohammed praised the efforts and achievements of the RTA team, expressing pride in their dedication and capabilities. However, he was clear that the journey continues. “Today, we are proud of the team, but we say to them — the mission is not over. The responsibility has doubled, and transportation challenges are increasing in line with the exceptional pace of growth in our city.”
He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in development, highlighting that the seamless movement of people is critical to Dubai’s ongoing progress. “What lies ahead is more important than what has already been achieved. The continuity of our development drive depends on the smooth mobility of people. We cannot afford any compromise in this vital area of our developmental journey,” he concluded.
The RTA, since its founding in 2005, has been at the forefront of transforming Dubai’s transportation landscape — from modern road networks and metro systems to smart mobility solutions. With the city experiencing rapid urban expansion, the authority’s role is set to remain pivotal in shaping Dubai’s future.
