As the clock ticks down to midnight, Dubai has officially implemented its traffic management and public transport plan for New Year’s Eve celebrations at Burj Khalifa, one of the city’s biggest annual events.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed today that road closures around the celebration zone began at 4:00 PM and will continue progressively until 11:00 PM. The affected streets include Al Asayel Street, Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street, Financial Center Street (both upper and lower levels), Al Mustaqbal Street, Al Sukook Street, and sections of Sheikh Zayed Road.
The closures aim to prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth pedestrian and vehicle movement as thousands gather for the iconic fireworks display.
To support the public, the RTA has allocated around 20,000 parking spots near the Burj Khalifa area, along with 8,000 additional spaces at Dubai Metro stations. Other supplementary parking zones are available at Al Wasl Club and Al Kifaf, including facilities of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
In anticipation of heavy turnout, public transportation services have been boosted significantly. More than 14,000 taxis, 18,000 luxury vehicles and limousines, and over 1,300 buses are operational today. These services are coordinated through 10 control centers and 26 traffic diversion vehicles deployed across strategic points in the city.
The Dubai Metro is running non-stop for 43 hours, starting at 5:00 AM today and continuing until 11:59 PM tomorrow, January 1, 2026. Dubai Tram will operate from 6:00 AM today until 1:00 AM on Friday, January 2, ensuring the public can access celebration areas and leave with ease after midnight.
The RTA is also actively monitoring and adjusting traffic signal timings through its control centers. Smart display screens and directional signs have been installed to guide road users, with real-time updates on closures and alternative routes.
More than 5,500 RTA personnel are on the ground today to help manage the large crowds and coordinate with Dubai Police, Civil Defense, and other agencies to ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone attending.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use public transport and follow guidance on the smart screens and social media updates for the best routes and parking options.
As the city prepares to ring in 2026, these measures reflect Dubai’s continued commitment to safety, organization, and world-class event management.
