In celebration of the 20th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, Dubai has launched a city-wide initiative to plant 20,000 trees in public parks, residential neighborhoods, and educational institutions.

The initiative, organized by Dubai Municipality in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), is a tribute to the visionary leadership of His Highness, whose approach has made sustainability a cornerstone of national responsibility and community values.

Community Engagement and Environmental Awareness

The campaign includes a series of public and on-the-ground planting events with the participation of government bodies, private sector organizations, schools, universities, and families. The initiative seeks to promote community involvement and reinforce environmental awareness throughout Dubai.

Dubai Municipality has selected key public parks across the city to begin planting activities, including:

  • Al Barsha South Park

  • Al Barsha Lake Park

  • Al Nakheel Park in Al Awir

  • Quranic Park in Al Khawaneej

  • Al Mizhar 2 Community Park

  • Rose Park in Nad Al Sheba

  • Al Safa Park in Jumeirah

  • Umm Suqeim Park

  • Al Quoz Lake Park

  • Al Warqa 3 Park

These parks will serve as the starting point for expanding Dubai’s green spaces, improving both environmental quality and public well-being.

Schools as Partners in Sustainability

Educational institutions will play an active role in the campaign. The KHDA has invited schools and universities to participate by filling out a registration form, allowing them to specify the types and quantities of plants they wish to cultivate within their campuses.

Dubai Municipality will coordinate directly with the participating schools to deliver the requested plants, ensuring a smooth and effective rollout that aligns with the campaign’s environmental goals.

A Symbolic and Sustainable Tribute

Eng. Marwan Ahmad bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that the campaign is a message of appreciation and loyalty to the exceptional leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him.

“The initiative represents the far-reaching and inspirational impact of His Highness’s leadership, which has become a global model for sustainable development,” he said. “It also sets an example of how national occasions can be transformed into long-term sustainable projects. Every tree planted leaves a mark—one that grows and thrives for future generations.”

He further highlighted that environmental sustainability is a fundamental pillar in Dubai’s development strategy, with human well-being and quality of life at the forefront.

“We are committed—together with our partners—to expanding green areas across the city and encouraging public participation in environmental conservation.”

Planting Knowledge Alongside Trees

Aisha Abdullah Miran, Director General of the KHDA, echoed this sentiment, saying that the campaign not only honors His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, but also reflects his lasting vision for a greener and more sustainable Dubai.

“Sustainability has become a deeply rooted value in Dubai’s identity. Planting trees in public and educational spaces reinforces the idea that greening the city is a civic duty and a symbol of life and progress,” she said.

“This initiative is also a message of gratitude from future generations to His Highness. Every seed we plant in our schools today will blossom in the years to come, as a living reminder of Dubai’s leadership in innovation, education, and sustainable development.”

Supporting the “Green Dubai” Vision

This campaign aligns with the broader objectives of Dubai’s Green Project, which seeks to increase the emirate’s green space per capita, expand urban landscaping, and foster a healthier environment that supports a high quality of life.
