Dr. Lina Al Kouri, Chair of the Health Sciences Department at the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University, affirmed that the college plays a key role in preparing scientifically and practically qualified professionals to support the future of healthcare in the UAE and the region. This is achieved through advanced academic programs that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, in line with national health priorities.
She explained that the department is keen to equip students with solid scientific foundations, along with developing their research and practical skills, in addition to providing field training opportunities that enable them to deal with various health and environmental challenges. She added that the public health and nutrition programs focus on key issues such as community prevention, sustainable food systems, and evidence-based solutions, which contribute to preparing graduates capable of addressing chronic diseases and nutrition-related problems.
Regarding the importance of directing scientific research, Dr. Al Kouri stressed that the true value of research lies in its ability to meet the needs of society, especially in areas such as pharmaceuticals and treatments, where research should contribute to improving patient care and enhancing drug safety and accessibility.
She pointed out that global trends, including those emphasized by the World Health Organization, call for aligning scientific research with societal priorities such as chronic diseases, mental health, and achieving equity in healthcare. She also noted that research is no longer limited to the theoretical aspect, but has become closely linked to real-world changes, including emerging disease patterns, personalized medicine, and the responsible use of data.
Dr. Al Kouri confirmed that scientific research represents a fundamental pillar within the college, as students participate in applied research projects under the supervision of faculty members, addressing contemporary topics in health and nutrition. The college also provides advanced infrastructure that includes modern laboratories and cutting-edge technologies, including a specialized system for body composition and metabolism analysis, in addition to molecular and cellular biology laboratories.
She added that this integration between education and research contributes to developing students’ critical thinking and innovation skills, and prepares them to play an active role in advancing the healthcare sector by transforming knowledge into practical solutions that serve society.
