Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri has been serving as the Minister of Education of the United Arab Emirates since July 2024. In her role, she oversees the development of educational policies and strategies in alignment with national objectives, aiming to enhance the quality of educational outcomes and elevate the efficiency and global competitiveness of the UAE’s education sector.
Prior to her appointment as Minister of Education, Her Excellency held the position of Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and Chairperson of the Emirates Schools Establishment from 2022 to 2024. During this period, she led the efforts to develop the government education sector across more than 500 schools nationwide, supervising the improvement of school performance and strengthening the capacity of academic and administrative staff.
In addition, she served as Chairperson of the UAE Space Agency from 2020 to 2024, leading the country’s national space strategy. Under her leadership, the agency achieved significant milestones that elevated the UAE’s standing globally among leading nations in space exploration.
From 2020 to 2024, Her Excellency also served as Minister of State for Advanced Technology at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. She had earlier joined the UAE federal government in 2017 as Minister of State for Advanced Sciences. Throughout her tenure, she oversaw the country’s science and technology agenda, leading numerous programs and initiatives that supported the scientific community and advanced the national research and development ecosystem. She also worked to expand the integration of advanced technologies across various sectors.
Before her ministerial appointments, Her Excellency held several prominent leadership roles, including Chairperson of the UAE Council of Scientists, Chairperson of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Council, and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Academy. She began her professional career as a software engineer in the UAE’s space sector, contributing to pioneering projects such as the Emirates Mars Mission (Hope Probe) and the national satellite development program—projects that have significantly advanced the UAE’s strategic space sector.
Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the American University of Sharjah.
