Dubai has unveiled an ambitious AED 500 million plan to completely transform Umm Suqeim Beach\u2014home to the beloved Kite Beach\u2014into a dynamic, world-class waterfront destination. The redeveloped beach is expected to draw more than six million visitors annually.<\/p>\n
The masterplan was approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The 3.1-kilometer beachfront project is set to break ground in the first quarter of 2026. It aims to expand public areas and reshape the beach environment with a design that reflects the Emirati cultural identity.<\/p>\n
Spanning an area of 445,000 square meters, the upgraded beach will be a go-to spot throughout the day, offering a mix of recreational, sports, and cultural experiences. A key feature of the project is a 30% increase in beach and public space, alongside smart lighting that will cover 130,000 square meters\u2014enabling safe and enjoyable evening activities, including nighttime swimming.<\/p>\n
A Blend of Tradition and Modern Convenience<\/strong><\/p>\n The new design will include six main entrance gates inspired by traditional Emirati architecture, along with ten transport hubs and eleven designated drop-off zones for taxis and ride services. There will also be dedicated lanes and parking for bicycles and electric scooters, making it easier for visitors to move around in a more eco-friendly way.<\/p>\n One standout feature will be a 38-meter-tall observation tower inspired by Dubai\u2019s seafaring heritage\u2014set to become a new coastal landmark. Parking will be expanded by 200%, bringing the total to about 2,400 spaces. Road access from Jumeirah Street will also be improved to ease traffic and reduce congestion in nearby residential areas.<\/p>\n Sustainability at the Heart of the Project<\/strong><\/p>\n Environmental sustainability is a central focus of this redevelopment. To tackle rising sea levels, the plan includes a two-kilometer-long coastal retaining wall and raised beach levels, backed by innovative coastal engineering solutions to ensure both protection and long-term usability.<\/p>\n Marwan Ahmad bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: Part of a Bigger Vision for Dubai\u2019s Future<\/strong><\/p>\n This project fits into the larger Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to improve quality of life across the city through sustainable development and enhanced tourism offerings.
