Over four years of cultural and knowledge-driven work, Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has established itself as one of the most prominent cultural landmarks in the UAE and the region. It has grown from a destination for reading and learning into a comprehensive platform that brings together knowledge, research, innovation, and community programs, in line with Dubai\u2019s growing cultural transformation.<\/p>\n

Since its opening, the library has contributed to strengthening Dubai\u2019s position as a global center for culture, knowledge production, and knowledge sharing. It does so through an integrated system that includes nine specialized libraries: the General Library, the Emirates Library, the Young Adults Library, the Children\u2019s Library, the Special Collections Library, the Maps and Atlases Library, the Arts and Media Library, the Business Library, and the Periodicals Library, in addition to the Information Center.<\/p>\n

Figures Reflecting Growing Knowledge Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrooei, Board Member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, said that the fourth anniversary of the library represents an important opportunity to reflect on a journey full of achievements. During this period, the library has strengthened its position as a cultural and knowledge institution, a key landmark in Dubai, and a platform that combines knowledge, culture, and innovation.<\/p>\n

He explained that the library has attracted more than 2.5 million visitors since its opening, while the Children\u2019s Library and the Young Adults Library recorded more than 126,500 visits. The library also received nearly 11,000 visits from diplomatic and official delegations, as well as educational and school institutions, over the past four years.<\/p>\n

The number of library members has also exceeded 41,000 across different categories, while total borrowings reached more than 53,000, reflecting the growing public interest in the library\u2019s services and facilities. In terms of knowledge resources, the library\u2019s digital collection has exceeded 1.3 billion resources in more than 90 languages, while its printed collection has reached around 760,000 knowledge materials.<\/p>\n

Initiatives to Promote Reading and Access to Knowledge<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since its launch, Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at spreading a culture of reading and expanding access to knowledge. One of the most notable is the \u201cA World Reads\u201d initiative, which has reached more than half a million beneficiaries and contributed to making reading a stronger habit among different segments of society.<\/p>\n

The library also launched the \u201cWorld in Your Language\u201d initiative, which works to make translated content available in multiple languages. So far, it has covered 12 international languages, using artificial intelligence technologies. In the same context, the initiative to revive national publications was introduced to document Emirati intellectual and knowledge production and present it again to new generations.<\/p>\n

Another notable initiative is \u201cKnowledge Horizons,\u201d which gave school students access to five local and international digital databases. This step supports research and learning skills and helps prepare students for future requirements.<\/p>\n

Publishing, Translation, and Support for Arabic Content<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has continued to develop its major cultural projects, led by the launch of its institutional arm for publishing and translation. This step aims to support the Arabic knowledge content industry and provide translated and authored publications on contemporary topics such as artificial intelligence, climate change, space, the environment, and the humanities.<\/p>\n

Through this project, the library seeks to raise the quality of Arabic content and strengthen its presence in the global knowledge landscape, according to precise scientific and professional standards.<\/p>\n

Preserving Cultural and Historical Memory<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the field of documentation and archiving, the library has supported major projects aimed at preserving cultural and historical memory, including \u201cDubai Archives,\u201d which was launched to document the stages of the emirate\u2019s development and preserve its civilizational heritage. This supports national identity and makes historical knowledge a gateway to understanding the present and anticipating the future.<\/p>\n

The library\u2019s Restoration Center also stands out as one of its important projects in protecting knowledge heritage. Equipped with modern technologies, the center helps restore manuscripts, periodicals, and rare materials. A team of national specialists has worked on restoring nearly 150 pieces, with the aim of preserving them and making them available for future generations.<\/p>\n

Growing Local and International Presence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Internationally, Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has strengthened its presence through participation in a number of major cultural exhibitions and conferences. These include the Cairo International Book Fair, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Conference and Exhibition \u201cIFLA,\u201d the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, the Sharjah International Book Fair, and the Frankfurt Book Fair.<\/p>\n

The library has also participated in the General Conference of the International Council of Museums \u201cICOM Dubai,\u201d the Knowledge Summit, and other regional and international events. These participations have helped expand cultural cooperation and exchange expertise with knowledge institutions around the world.<\/p>\n

The library also organized the Dubai International Library and Publishing Summit for two consecutive years, with wide participation from more than 25 countries. The summit has become a global platform that brings together experts and decision-makers in the fields of libraries, publishing, and knowledge.<\/p>\n

Diverse Cultural and Knowledge Events<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since its opening, Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has hosted and supported several major events, including the Arab Reading Challenge, the WikiArabia Conference, the Ta\u2019beer Literary Forum, the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, and the Emirati Article Writers Forum. It also hosted the Thinkers and Creators Forum in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n

Over the past years and up to this year, the library has organized and hosted around 750 cultural, literary, and artistic events. These included specialized exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and dialogue sessions, with the participation of leading thinkers, researchers, and creatives from inside and outside the UAE.<\/p>\n

Exhibitions and Rare Collections<\/strong><\/p>\n

The library has succeeded in organizing and hosting specialized exhibitions that highlight different aspects of culture and knowledge. One of the most prominent examples is the Arab Journalism Exhibition, which included more than 500 periodicals from local, Arab, and international newspapers and magazines. The exhibition offered an archival experience documenting the development of journalism and its role in shaping public awareness.<\/p>\n

The library also houses the permanent Treasures Exhibition, which includes more than 300 rare items, including manuscripts, first editions, documents, archival materials, and historical publications of high knowledge value. This makes it an important destination for researchers and those interested in heritage and documentation.<\/p>\n

Awards Reflecting Excellence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohammed Bin Rashid Library\u2019s journey has been crowned with a number of local and international awards, reflecting its excellence in creativity, innovation, and the use of modern technologies to serve knowledge. These awards include the Best Arab Library and Information Institution Award, the Excellence Award for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Applications, and its selection as the Cultural Personality of the Al Owais Creativity Award.<\/p>\n

A Future Vision for Sustainable Knowledge<\/strong><\/p>\n
