Dubai continues to accelerate its transition toward a future built around autonomous mobility, with self-driving taxis, or robotaxis, having traveled more than 4 million kilometers since the service was launched and completed 7,613 passenger trips. The figures point to growing public confidence in autonomous transportation solutions and lay the groundwork for the next stage of driverless mobility in the emirate.<\/p>\n
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Self-Driving Transport and Aerial Vehicles at Dubai\u2019s Roads and Transport Authority, said: \u201cThe robotaxi service fleet currently consists of 144 vehicles, including 48 vehicles that are in active operation, while the service completes around 50 trips per day. Most notably, the service has achieved a customer satisfaction rate of 97%, reflecting the growing acceptance of this technology and the quality of the customer experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bahrozyan added: \u201cThis operational performance represents an important milestone in Dubai\u2019s journey toward achieving its strategic goal of making 25% of all trips in the emirate autonomous by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dubai\u2019s autonomous taxi program is being developed through a carefully phased approach designed to ensure the highest levels of safety, reliability, and operational readiness.<\/p>\n
The carefully selected operating areas allow the technology to be tested and its efficiency to be verified under real-world conditions, supporting a smooth transition from trials conducted with a safety driver to fully driverless autonomous transportation services.<\/p>\n
The extensive distances covered by the vehicles so far also provide an important operational base for assessing the performance of autonomous driving technologies, improving the customer experience, and preparing the service for future stages of expansion.<\/p>\n
The Roads and Transport Authority\u2019s partnerships with Apollo Go by Baidu, WeRide, and Pony.ai are adding a new dimension to Dubai\u2019s public transportation ecosystem.<\/p>\n
By leveraging the autonomous driving technologies and fleet-management expertise of these companies, the three firms, in cooperation with the RTA, aim to set a global benchmark for smart mobility and help reinforce Dubai\u2019s position as a leading global destination for autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n
The accelerated implementation also reflects the RTA\u2019s commitment to the agreements signed with the three companies, ensuring that its roadmap for launching autonomous taxi services in Dubai is carried out according to the approved timelines and plans, in line with the emirate\u2019s broader path of comprehensive and sustainable development across all sectors.<\/p>\n
The growth of Dubai\u2019s autonomous mobility ecosystem is supported by strategic partnerships with major global technology and mobility companies.<\/p>\n
In this context, the RTA is working with its autonomous mobility partners to expand access to driverless transportation and integrate autonomous vehicles into Dubai\u2019s wider mobility network.<\/p>\n
These partnerships represent an important step in connecting autonomous vehicle technologies with Dubai\u2019s digital mobility ecosystem.<\/p>\n
Through them, customers in selected areas of the city can access fully autonomous, driverless taxi services, supporting the integration of autonomous mobility into everyday journeys and contributing to Dubai\u2019s vision of expanding safe, efficient, and sustainable autonomous transportation.<\/p>\n
In the same context, Uber announced today that Baidu\u2019s Apollo Go autonomous vehicles are now available on the Uber platform in Dubai, with New Horizon Luxury Transport operating the fleet.<\/p>\n
The rapid development of autonomous mobility comes as Dubai continues to experience population growth, with the city currently home to more than 4 million residents.<\/p>\n
This growth is increasing demand for convenient, efficient, and technology-enabled mobility solutions, alongside the growing use of shared mobility and app-based ride-hailing services.<\/p>\n
Dubai\u2019s transport performance indicators reflect the scale of this rising demand. Public transportation, shared mobility services, and taxis carried 348 million passengers during the first half of 2026, while the average daily number of passengers reached 1.9 million.<\/p>\n
This expanding and integrated mobility ecosystem provides a strong foundation for developing autonomous vehicle services and broadening their reach in the future.<\/p>\n
Autonomous taxis are considered one of the key components of Dubai\u2019s future mobility ecosystem, alongside public transportation, conventional taxis, and shared mobility services, offering a new model of safe, technology-enabled transportation.<\/p>\n
