Eid Al Adha 2025

The UAE has officially announced the dates for Eid Al Adha 2025, granting a four-day holiday to both public and private sector workers. The confirmation came after the country’s moon-sighting committee observed the crescent moon on the evening of Tuesday, May 27, signaling the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah—the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

As a result, Dhu Al Hijjah starts on Wednesday, May 28, setting the stage for the two most significant events in the Islamic calendar: the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid Al Adha.

Key Dates for Eid Al Adha and Hajj 2025

According to the official announcement:

  • Hajj begins on Wednesday, June 4

  • Arafat Day, the most sacred day of Hajj, falls on Thursday, June 5

  • Eid Al Adha starts on Friday, June 6 and continues through Sunday, June 8

With Thursday already marked as Arafat Day and followed by the three days of Eid, UAE residents will enjoy a four-day long weekend. Regular work is expected to resume on Monday, June 9.

What Is Eid Al Adha?

Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the holiest celebrations in Islam. It commemorates the story of the Prophet Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to God. At the last moment, God provided a ram to be sacrificed instead.

The day is marked by special prayers, family gatherings, festive meals, and acts of charity. Many families who can afford it traditionally sacrifice a sheep or goat sharing the meat among relatives and those in need.

A Time of Faith and Togetherness

As with other major Islamic holidays in the UAE, Eid Al Adha is a deeply spiritual and communal occasion. It’s a time when families come together to reflect on their faith, express gratitude, and offer support to the less fortunate.

The Significance of Hajj

Taking place in the holy city of Makkah, Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it. The pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam and draws millions of worshippers from around the world each year.

For UAE citizens and residents, the days surrounding Hajj and Eid Al Adha represent both a religious milestone and  opportunity for extended rest and celebration.
