The open-air theater at Zayed Sports City is preparing to welcome audiences to “Antar and Abla”, the first Arabic opera of its kind, running from December 9 to 14, 2025. Over six spectacular nights, the story that has lived in the hearts of generations will be reimagined in an artistic fusion of classical opera and deep-rooted Arab heritage.
This opera presents a bold and fresh vision for Arabic storytelling — giving life to a classic love story in a global artistic language while preserving its cultural identity. Recognized for its cultural value, the production has been awarded the Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award for Cultural Excellence, highlighting its role in reinforcing the importance of Arabic in the lives of future generations.
A Theater Like No Other
This is no ordinary performance space. A custom-built stage has been constructed over the tennis court at Zayed Sports City, transforming a sporting arena into an epicenter of music and drama. Equipped with the latest in lighting technology and immersive visual effects, the venue will offer audiences an engaging, almost cinematic operatic experience under the stars.
East Meets East: A Global Collaboration
What truly sets this production apart is its international scale. The Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra from China will accompany the opera, infusing it with rich, symphonic layers. In a striking artistic gesture, Shaolin monks from China will also take part, adding a dramatic visual and physical element to the show.
This artistic partnership reflects over 40 years of cultural and economic collaboration between the UAE and China, showcasing a living example of how art can serve as a bridge between nations.

Iman Al Salem Al-Tameed, Acting CEO of Bidaya, the company behind the opera, described the project as more than a stage production. She stated:
