In the lively heart of Deira, one of Dubai’s oldest and most storied neighborhoods, stands the historic building now known as Naif Museum—a place that tells the story of the city’s dedication to law, order, and public service. Originally built in 1939, this fort once served as the first headquarters of the Dubai Police, home to administrative offices and the general commander’s office.

In 1997, under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, the fort was carefully restored to preserve its historic significance. A section of the fort was transformed into a public museum to highlight the legacy and development of the police force in Dubai—giving residents and visitors alike a unique opportunity to explore this vital part of the city’s past.

What You’ll See Inside

Naif Museum offers a well-curated, insightful look into the evolution of Dubai’s police force. Visitors can explore two main exhibition halls featuring:

  • A wide range of traditional and modern police uniforms that show how the force’s appearance has changed over time.

  • Official badges, medals, and rank insignia, displayed alongside historic equipment and tools used by police across different eras.

  • Photographs, archived documents, and early administrative orders that trace the milestones of the police force since its official formation in 1956.

  • A showcase of historic weapons and ceremonial items, including vintage firearms, decorative swords, and daggers that reflect the traditions and operational needs of the time.

  • Multilingual video presentations offering short films in Arabic, English, French, and German, allowing visitors to better understand the exhibits and the broader story of Dubai’s security evolution.

Together, these exhibits create a vivid timeline that connects the city’s early efforts in maintaining order with the highly advanced and respected police system Dubai is known for today.
