Dubai International Airport is gearing up for a major upgrade in passenger experience, as it plans to make its innovative “Red Carpet” smart tunnel available to all guests in the near future. The move is part of a broader push to eliminate traditional queues and replace them with seamless biometric systems.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, shared the update on LinkedIn, stating that the airport is rapidly moving away from outdated check-in lines and toward a fully automated, smooth-flowing process powered by facial recognition and biometric technologies.
“It won’t be long before our intelligent Red Carpet tunnel is rolled out to all our guests,” Griffiths wrote. “This will dramatically reduce waiting times and give travelers more time to enjoy their journeys.”
The Red Carpet tunnel is an advanced biometric corridor where passengers are identified automatically as they walk through, without needing to stop for manual document checks or additional screening. Once recognized, they’re given instant clearance to proceed, making the entire process faster and more convenient.
Griffiths emphasized that these technologies are already helping to transform how passengers move through the airport terminals. “Waiting in line at Dubai Airport is quickly becoming a thing of the past,” he noted.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate AI and smart design solutions across all airport operations—from passenger entry and exit to logistics and transport management—ensuring that Dubai remains at the forefront of global airport innovation.
Dubai International Airport continues to raise the bar for customer experience, setting a new global standard for smart travel through cutting-edge technology and visionary planning.
