Elements of Light Exhibition

JD Malat Gallery – Dubai has officially opened its highly anticipated group exhibition Elements of Light, bringing together thirteen distinguished artists whose works have been instrumental in shaping the gallery’s 2025 artistic vision. The exhibition, which runs from December 10, 2025, to January 31, 2026, offers an immersive journey through light as both a visual and emotional element.

Set within the elegant space of JD Malat Gallery at Act Two Tower in Downtown Dubai, the exhibition presents a wide-ranging collection that moves between abstraction, realism, minimalism, conceptual art, and sculpture. This diversity reflects the vibrant and ever-evolving contemporary art scene in Dubai, highlighting the power of artistic collaboration across borders and cultures.

At its core, Elements of Light is an exploration of light beyond its physical presence—it is treated as an emotional trigger, a memory keeper, and a sensory force. Whether reflected on metallic surfaces, diffused through bold color fields, or expressed as movement through space, light in this exhibition acts as a narrative thread tying together the diverse practices of its featured artists.

The lineup includes:

  • Casper Brindle (Canada/USA), a second-generation member of the Light and Space movement, whose serene horizontal gradients invite quiet contemplation.

  • Fouad Hamza (Lebanon/UAE), whose piece Infinite Ascent combines classical Arabic calligraphy with urban aesthetics in a mirrored spiral form that reflects light and symbolizes human growth and aspiration.

  • Masayoshi Nojo (Japan), who uses oxidized silver leaf in his contemporary Neo-Nihonga style to explore memory and impermanence.

  • Retna (USA), renowned for his distinctive script-like symbols that blur language, spirituality, and street culture into powerful abstract compositions.

  • Chang Jie (China), drawing inspiration from architectural repetition to create tactile, rhythmic surfaces filled with meditative stillness.

  • Gary Lang (USA), who brings vibrancy through color, juxtaposed by the textural, mountainous landscapes of Conrad Jon Godly (Switzerland), balancing rawness with calm beauty.

  • Katrin Fridriks (Iceland), known for her dynamic installations charged with energy.

  • Andy Moses (USA), whose shifting, light-reactive paintings invite viewers to experience constant transformation.

  • Ed Moses (USA), a West Coast art legend, layering pigments and grids to explore structure and translucency.

  • Santiago Parra (Colombia), using bold black brushstrokes on white canvases to externalize raw emotion.

  • Sophie-Yen Bretez (Vietnam/France), who concludes the visual narrative with works exploring memory and consciousness through layered symbols and forms evoking hidden meanings across time.

Despite their diverse backgrounds and artistic approaches, the participating artists are united by a shared inquiry into how art can capture fleeting moments, evoke sensory atmospheres, and express meaning that transcends language.

Elements of Light stands as a compelling example of JD Malat Gallery’s commitment to fostering international dialogue through contemporary art. The exhibition is open to the public until January 31, 2026, offering art lovers in Dubai a unique chance to witness light refracted through the lens of global creativity.
