Etihad Rail has carried out a series of exceptional passenger journeys along the railway line connecting Ghuwaifat Station in the Al Dhafra region to Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi, successfully transporting more than 350 passengers safely and smoothly. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision and coordination of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Center of Abu Dhabi.
The special service was launched ahead of the official rollout of Etihad Rail’s passenger operations, reflecting the network’s operational readiness and its ability to activate alternative transport solutions in response to emerging regional developments.
Swift Response to Regional Developments
The exceptional service was introduced amid regional circumstances that led to temporary disruptions in certain air travel services. In coordination with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the operation formed part of a broader, organized national effort to ensure the continued movement of travelers.
Authorities implemented a structured and carefully managed operating plan, immediately activating approved safety protocols and emergency procedures. Technical and human resources were mobilized to ensure seamless execution, while freight services across the national railway network continued uninterrupted and in line with official directives.
Demonstrating National Readiness and Operational Flexibility
His Excellency Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Center of Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the initiative highlights the national system’s ability to respond rapidly to changing regional conditions. He noted that the move underscores the strategic importance of the UAE’s national railway network, which is characterized by high levels of efficiency, reliability, and readiness.
He added that operating passenger services ahead of their official launch demonstrates advanced institutional flexibility, allowing available resources to be redirected to serve immediate community priorities without compromising long-term operational plans or the country’s logistical security. The decision, he explained, was based on real-time risk assessments linked to ongoing developments.
Engineer Mohammed Al Shehhi, Projects Sector Executive Director at Etihad Rail, stated that the exceptional passenger journeys reflect the company’s commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at ensuring stability for citizens and residents. He highlighted the strong technical and operational preparedness of the national railway network, as well as the efficiency of its workforce.
Al Shehhi also confirmed that additional trips have been scheduled as needed, with operations continuing in close coordination with relevant authorities until regular air traffic resumes.
A Model of Institutional Integration
This exceptional operation demonstrates a proactive crisis management approach built on institutional integration and rapid activation of alternative solutions when required. It reinforces confidence in the resilience of the UAE’s infrastructure and its ability to maintain essential services under various scenarios.
Through this early passenger service activation, the UAE once again affirms its capacity to manage regional challenges with agility and stability, ensuring public safety while maintaining the continuity of vital transport and logistics services.
