Amazon: UAE Builds an Integrated Talent Ecosystem and Supports Digital Economy Leaders

Bikram Walia, Director of Human Resources at Amazon for the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, said the UAE has established an advanced model for building a labor market capable of keeping pace with technological change and attracting global talent, while continuing to invest in the development of Emirati men and women and preparing them for influential roles in the digital economy.

He noted that the UAE labor market’s appeal is supported by a clear government vision for the digital economy and artificial intelligence, as well as an integrated system focused on Emiratization and the development of national capabilities. He added that Amazon considers Emirati talent an essential part of the future of its business in the country.

A Future-Focused Vision Supporting the UAE Labor Market

Walia said the government’s forward-looking approach to technology and artificial intelligence gives the UAE labor market a distinctive advantage. He pointed to the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which provides a long-term roadmap for the digital economy.

He added that this ambition works alongside the country’s commitment to Emiratization and initiatives such as the Nafis program, as well as Amazon’s own programs focused on leadership development and talent retention.

Amazon Invests in Emirati Talent

Walia said this model helps prepare a generation of Emirati men and women with digital skills, a global outlook, and the readiness to take on leadership roles.

He also noted that this approach provides companies operating in the UAE with an advantage by combining a strong understanding of the local market with the ability to work in a global business environment.

Emiratization as a Development Path, Not Just Recruitment

Walia said: “Amazon does not view Emiratization simply as a recruitment process, but rather as a journey that begins with attracting and developing national talent and extends to preparing them to take on responsibilities and leadership roles. The Enjaz program, launched by the company in 2023, represents one of the most prominent paths in this direction, as it aims to accelerate the career growth of Emirati talent and build a pipeline of future leaders.”
