Dr. Fatima Taher serves as the Director of the Research and Community Service Department at Zayed University, where she leads efforts to advance scientific research and promote innovation, contributing to the UAE’s vision of a knowledge-based and technology-driven economy.
Prior to joining Zayed University in 2017, she worked as an Assistant Professor at Khalifa University from 2010 to 2017. She also served as a faculty member at the University of Sharjah between 2001 and 2010, where she contributed to teaching and developing programs in computer science and engineering.
Dr. Fatima Taher has established a strong international academic presence, having published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and achieved over 3,239 citations. Her research impact is further reflected in an h-index of 32 and an i10-index of 61, demonstrating both influence and sustained productivity in the scientific community.
She has been ranked among the top 0.5% of researchers worldwide in the Top Scholar 2025 ranking for the second consecutive year. She was also included among the top 2% of scientists globally for 2025, according to the prestigious Stanford–Elsevier ranking, one of the most recognized global benchmarks for measuring research impact based on citation metrics and publication quality.
Dr. Taher has contributed to the development of innovative artificial intelligence solutions, particularly in the healthcare sector. She holds a U.S. patent for technologies aimed at early detection of brain diseases using MRI analysis, and she also developed a system for the early detection of lung cancer.
In 2015, she was honored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, as part of the second edition of the UAE Pioneers initiative. She was recognized as the first innovator of an electronic system for the early detection of lung cancer.
Dr. Fatima Taher holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from Khalifa University (2013), as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Sharjah. She is considered among the first Emirati women to earn a PhD in engineering from Khalifa University.
