Emirates Health Services has announced that Dr. Noha Al Zaabi, a consultant in genetic and metabolic disorders and pediatrics at Fujairah Hospital, has won the Down Syndrome Research Award – State of Kuwait Prize for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, presented by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The award recognizes her significant contributions to advancing scientific research and improving healthcare services for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, as well as her role in strengthening integrated care systems for this group across the region.
Dr. Issam Al Zarooni, Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at Emirates Health Services, said the recognition reflects the strong scientific standing of the organization’s medical professionals. He added that it also highlights the organization’s commitment to promoting research and innovation in key healthcare priorities, helping develop specialized care models based on international best practices.
He further noted that Emirates Health Services places strong emphasis on building a comprehensive genetic care system and supporting research efforts aimed at improving the quality of life of patients and their families. These efforts align with national goals to build a healthier society and strengthen the UAE’s position as a regional hub for excellence in medical research and specialized care.

She stressed the importance of continuing to develop specialized services that address both the health and social needs of individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
