Dubai International Airport maintained its position at the top of the world’s busiest airports in terms of scheduled international seat capacity in August 2026, according to data from OAG, a global provider of airport and airline information.
The data showed that airlines operating at Dubai International Airport scheduled approximately 4.54 million seats on international flights during August. This represents nearly 9 million seats when flights in both directions are included, reinforcing the airport’s position as the world’s largest international aviation hub.
Strong Growth in Seat Capacity
Dubai International Airport recorded growth of approximately 4.4% in the number of scheduled seats on international flights in August compared with July 2026.
The monthly increase reached around 190,000 seats, reflecting continued strong demand for travel through Dubai during the summer season and the rise in passenger traffic across international routes.
This growth comes as airlines continue to expand their operations and add more seat capacity to meet higher demand during the peak summer travel period.
Heathrow Airport Ranks Second
London Heathrow Airport ranked second globally, with 4.26 million scheduled seats on international flights during August.
Seoul Incheon International Airport moved into third place after recording 3.95 million seats, while Amsterdam Airport ranked fourth with 3.85 million seats.
Istanbul Airport took fifth place on the list, with approximately 3.80 million scheduled international seats during the month.
These results highlight Dubai International Airport’s continued lead over several of the world’s most prominent aviation hubs in Europe and Asia.
Higher Demand During the Summer Season
The increase in seat capacity at Dubai International Airport coincided with peak summer travel demand, prompting airlines to increase their operations and provide additional flights and seats.
This reflects the strength of the airport’s global connectivity, as well as Dubai’s position as a major destination for tourism and business and a key transit point linking different regions of the world.
The wide range of airlines and international destinations also supports the airport’s ability to attract growing numbers of passengers and strengthen its position among the world’s largest aviation hubs.
Global Leadership for the 12th Consecutive Year
Dubai International Airport maintained its position in 2025 as the world’s largest airport by international passenger numbers for the 12th consecutive year.
The airport retained its leading position after continuing to record strong growth in international travel compared with other major global airports, according to the annual report issued by Airports Council International.
Dubai International Airport welcomed approximately 95.2 million passengers in 2025, an increase of 3.1% compared with the previous year, making it the busiest year in the airport’s history.
The airport also handled 18.6 million passengers during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting continued momentum in international travel through Dubai.
Dubai Strengthens Its Position on the Global Aviation Map
The latest results further strengthen Dubai’s position as a major center for international aviation and travel, supported by continued demand growth and the expansion of airline operations at Dubai International Airport.
