Rent Now, Pay Later: Dubai Set to Launch Zero-Interest Rental Service With Payments Over 12 Months

Dubai Land Department is preparing to launch a new flexible rental initiative under the name “Rent Now, Pay Later”, in cooperation with a local bank, at the beginning of September. The move is part of Dubai’s efforts to provide tenants with more flexible payment solutions and make access to housing easier.

The upcoming initiative will allow individuals to rent residential units without having to pay the full annual rental amount upfront. Instead, tenants will be able to repay the amount over flexible periods of up to 12 months, with no interest charged on the installment plan, according to the mechanism currently being developed.

How Will the “Rent Now, Pay Later” Service Work in Dubai?

Under the expected mechanism, the tenant will first select the property they want to rent. Once the required procedures are completed, the bank will pay the full annual rental value directly to the property owner.

The tenant will then repay the amount to the bank in installments over a period of up to 12 months at zero interest. This gives tenants greater flexibility in managing their financial commitments instead of having to pay annual rent upfront or through a limited number of large payments.

The model is also expected to provide tenants with a payment plan that is more closely aligned with their monthly income, while allowing landlords to receive the annual rental amount in accordance with the approved arrangements.

Dubai Moves to Increase Flexibility in the Rental Market

The initiative reflects Dubai’s continued focus on developing new and innovative solutions for the real estate sector, with particular attention to supporting tenants and providing more flexible payment options for different segments of the community.

It also represents a new model of cooperation between the government and banking sectors, aimed at introducing financial solutions connected to the property market while improving the rental experience and making housing more accessible.

The service is expected to help tenants manage their expenses more comfortably, especially by allowing them to spread annual rent across the year instead of setting aside a large amount at the beginning of the lease.

A Model That Could Be the First of Its Kind Worldwide

If the initiative is approved and launched in its final form, Dubai is expected to become the first city in the world to implement a fully integrated “Rent Now, Pay Later” model within its rental market system.

The move would further strengthen Dubai’s position as a city known for adopting innovative real estate and financial solutions, while continuing to develop services designed to improve the experience of residents, investors, and property owners.

The initiative also aligns with the emirate’s broader direction toward introducing more flexible solutions across the real estate sector, supporting market competitiveness and its ability to respond to changing customer needs.

Supporting Easier Access to Housing

One of the main expected benefits of the initiative is its potential to reduce the financial pressure some tenants face at the beginning of a rental contract by allowing the annual rental amount to be paid over a longer period.

This model gives tenants greater room to manage their monthly budgets while covering housing, moving, and other living expenses without having to allocate a large amount to rent all at once.

At the same time, landlords would be able to receive the annual rental value through the bank under the approved procedures, helping provide greater clarity and stability within the rental relationship.

Eligibility Requirements to Be Announced at Launch

The full terms and details of the service are expected to be announced when the initiative is officially launched. These will include application procedures, eligibility requirements, financing arrangements, and repayment mechanisms.

The regulations are also expected to clarify the relationship between the tenant, landlord, and bank, as well as determine who can benefit from the service and the steps required to complete the installment process.

The final structure of the initiative will remain subject to the terms and procedures officially approved and announced by the relevant authorities.

An Extension of the “Flexible Renting” Initiative

The “Rent Now, Pay Later” initiative follows the direction established by Dubai Land Department in June with the launch of the “Flexible Renting” initiative, which was designed to expand the payment options available to tenants.

The Flexible Renting initiative provides several payment models, including monthly, quarterly, and semiannual payments, alongside the possibility of incentives, rental discounts, and promotional packages for new tenants offered by participating entities.

The model applies to vacant or eligible rental units owned or managed by participating partners, with flexible payment options provided according to each entity’s approved policies and in line with the laws and regulations in force in Dubai.

Another Step Toward a More Flexible Rental Experience

The “Rent Now, Pay Later” service represents another step in the development of Dubai’s rental market, particularly as it combines payment flexibility, banking cooperation, and easier management of financial commitments.

With the possibility of spreading rent payments over up to 12 months with zero interest, the initiative could enhance the tenant experience while supporting greater stability in the rental market and providing housing solutions that are better suited to residents’ needs.
