UAE

By the end of May 2025, the UAE proudly recorded 385,774 registered national and international trademarks in its markets, alongside a network of 388 licensed trademark agents—a clear indicator of the country’s growing appeal as a global trademark center and its thriving, innovative business environment.

To build on this momentum, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Emirates Intellectual Property Association. The agreement aims to uplift the skills and accreditation of trademark agents, empowering them to effectively represent clients in registration procedures.

The MoU was officially signed by:

  • Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism

  • Major General Dr. Abdul Qaddous Abdul Razzaq Al Ubaidli, Assistant Commander‑in‑Chief for Excellence and Leadership Affairs at Dubai Police, and Chair of the Board of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association

Also present was Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Mueini, Assistant Undersecretary for Intellectual Property at the ministry.

Why This Matters

1. Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks
The ministry is committed to refining the regulatory and legislative landscape around intellectual property—a vital pillar for national economic growth and competitiveness.

2. Professionalizing Trademark Agents
This initiative aims to expand and elevate the capabilities of trademark offices and agents in line with global best practices, simplifying registration processes, and delivering top-tier services to trademark owners.

3. Internationally Accredited Training
The training takes place at the Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Center, accredited locally by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority and internationally in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). A team of expert legal practitioners will lead the program, ensuring rich, practical, and comprehensive instruction.

Training Highlights

Participants will dive into essentials like:

  • Local and international trademark laws

  • The Madrid Protocol and other key international agreements

  • Registration processes, objection procedures, renewals

  • Simulated exercises and mock official exams

This initiative ensures legal professionals in the field are equipped to keep pace with evolving legislation and technology, furthering the UAE’s competitive and innovative trademark environment.

  • Ministry of Economy and Tourism: Provide technical guidance and define training and exam requirements, and offer online services such as the “Register as Trademark Agent” portal for those seeking official accreditation.

  • Emirates Intellectual Property Association: Organize and conduct training programs in line with the ministry’s ministerial decree, ensuring a standard of excellence and professionalism.
