Hamdan bin Mohammed: This Is How We Want to Use Technology in Dubai, to Make People's Lives Easier and Create an Experience That Exceeds Their Expectations

The Red Carpet project, developed by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, has won the Dubai-it Award in the Government Projects category. The award recognizes the project’s success in transforming the passenger journey through smart technology that allows travelers to complete airport procedures in less than five seconds, without presenting documents or having to stop.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, congratulated the Red Carpet project team on winning the award.

His Highness said: “Today, we announce that the Dubai-it Award in the Government Projects category has been granted to the Red Carpet project by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai… The fastest travel procedure in the world, completed in less than five seconds, without documents or stopping… With artificial intelligence, passenger handling capacity has increased tenfold, and traveler satisfaction has exceeded 99%.”

His Highness added: “This is the Dubai-it philosophy: to make a leap forward in procedures, go beyond what the world has become accustomed to, and deliver an exceptional achievement that changes the familiar… This is how we want to use technology in Dubai, to make people’s lives easier and create an experience that exceeds their expectations… Congratulations to the Red Carpet project team.”

Developing the Red Carpet Corridor to Speed Up Travel Procedures Using AI

The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai developed the Red Carpet corridor at Dubai International Airport to provide passengers with a faster and smoother travel experience.

The smart corridor uses artificial intelligence and biometric recognition technology to verify passengers’ identities and complete their travel procedures automatically, removing the need to present passports or other travel documents.

The system can process up to 10 passengers simultaneously, compared with traditional lanes that handle one traveler at a time. This has increased passenger handling capacity tenfold, helping reduce waiting times and improve the flow of travelers through the airport.

The project’s award-winning results include completing travel procedures in just five seconds and achieving a traveler satisfaction rate of more than 99%. It has also improved operational efficiency, shortened processing and waiting times, and delivered financial savings and measurable economic benefits.

Strengthening Dubai’s Competitiveness Through Innovation in Government Services

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said: “The competitiveness of cities is measured by their ability to facilitate the movement of people and businesses. The Dubai-it philosophy is put into practice through exceptional, world-class projects, and the Red Carpet project provides a model of how the Dubai-it philosophy can be transformed into economic value and an experience unmatched anywhere in the world; time given back to travelers, greater capacity to accommodate growth, and efficiency that strengthens Dubai’s position as a global destination.”

His Excellency added: “The Dubai-it Award celebrates experiences whose impact deserves to extend across different areas of government work. The success being recognized by the award today must become a starting point for greater achievements and a work culture in which institutions continually renew their ambitions and results.”

An Exceptional Travel Experience Reflecting Dubai’s Dubai-it Philosophy

The Red Carpet project offers an advanced model for the future of border crossings, using modern technology to make travel procedures easier, faster, and more secure. It also reinforces Dubai’s position as a global center for innovation in government services.

The project reflects the Dubai-it philosophy, which focuses on turning ideas into practical achievements within record time and delivering services that make a direct difference to travelers.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, launched the Dubai-it initiative to promote a culture of hard work and achievement, turn ambitions into tangible results, and strengthen this approach among future generations, institutions, and companies.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai-it Award was introduced to recognize individuals, projects, institutions, and companies that achieve exceptional results with efficiency, excellence, and speed, reflecting Dubai’s philosophy of work and achievement.
